Mandated Screenings

The State Department of Health Mandated Health Screening Program:

 

Height, Weight, BMI

All students in K-12 are measured annually

BMI (Body Mass Index) measurements are calculated as part of the state’s initiative to address childhood obesity and the health risks associated with being overweight. Parents will be notified of their child’s BMI electronically via Sapphire. Click here for more information about BMI.

Vision

Near and far visual acuity are screened in K-12 annually.

Additional 1st grade screenings include: color vision test, depth perception test, and convex lens test.

Hearing

Students in grades K-3, 7, and 11 are screened for hearing.

Scoliosis

Students in grades 6 and 7 are required to have a scoliosis screening. 6th grade students have this screening as part of the 6th grade physical.

Dental Exam

A Pennsylvania dental exam is required upon entry to school and in 3rd and 7th grades. The dental exam may be performed by a student’s family dentist or the school provider.

The district has contracted with Dr. William Noll, DMD to provide a basic examination and also has a partnership with Smiles Program the mobile dentist who can offer low cost and free screenings and treatments. Click here for more information.

Physical Exam

A Pennsylvania physical exam is required upon entry to school and in 6th and 11th grade. The physical exam may be completed by the family doctor, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.
